Global lentil market to grow in next decade


The global lentil protein market will expand at a CAGR of 4.9% between 2020 and 2030, said a new study from Future Market Insights (FMI). Findings revealed surging demand for lentil protein among food, sports nutrition, nutraceutical, and infant formula products. These growths will drive the market on a remunerative path through the forecast period.
Among types of products, lentil protein isolates accounted for over 45% volume share in 2020 and will remain the most sought-out product type through the forecast period, FMI said. Increasing consumption of lentil protein in bakeries and confectioneries channel a prominent share of revenue to the market. The dry processing segment, which accounted for nearly two-thirds of will global market value in 2020, will hold the lion's share based on the processing type.

Allergen-free opportunities
The report also revealed that surging demand for allergen-free natural products would act as the significant growth driver to the market. FMI explained that the prevalence of food allergies is pushing consumers to seek allergen-free products. This trend creates revenue opportunities for lentil protein, an ingredient in allergen-free food products. With over 170 food products linked to allergic reactions, the growing demand for allergen-free food will continue to propel the demand for lentil protein, the research firm said.
Lentil protein is also gaining followers in sports nutrition. Owing to its robust nutritional profile, athletes and fitness enthusiasts find lentil proteins as a post-workout food source. FMI said demand for lentil protein had witnessed a substantial uptick in the sports nutrition sector, thus further fuelling the growth of the market.
