More healthy, sustainable, and digital food trends

Today’s global food trends call for more wholesome and sustainable food choices. According to the Federation of German Food and Drink Industries’ findings, demand for high-quality made food products is growing worldwide. Increased consumer awareness promotes healthy and sustainable eating and contributes to greater product individualisation, research shows.
Innovative and digital technologies are also on the rise, which promises consumers new food choices. The COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated the awareness for healthy meal choices and the consumers' attention to sustainability and the digitalisation of food production and purchasing processes. Furthermore, the pandemic has underlined the challenges of global supply chains.
The federation is an industry sponsor of the upcoming Anuga international F&B tradeshow slated this October 9-13, 2021, in Cologne, Germany. Taking its cue from these trends, the show this year will be more hybrid — providing both physical and digital offerings to both international exhibitors and visitors, whether on-site in Cologne or the virtual realm.
