Chef inspires home baking businesses in the Philippines

The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted F&B operations in the Philippines, including chef Rudolfo Vincent "RV" Manabat's café business in Biñan, Laguna. But while the current lockdown and restrictions stopped his café from accepting dine-in customers, a new opportunity arose — creating content for budding bakers who want to set up small businesses. According to Manabat, who also conducts culinary classes, he did not expect the overwhelming following for his baking and cooking videos since the pandemic started. His YouTube channel now has 485 thousand subscribers, with videos garnering 200 thousand to 1.1 million views. Some of his followers are even thanking him for the tutorial videos that help them launch their home bakeries.
In this Zoom interview, the chef-vlogger tells Tasty Asia what drives him to create more content for his audience and reveals how the pandemic has affected F&B business in the Philippines. (Images and video footage used with permission from owner)
